Demons Madhu and Kaitabha had challenged Brahma for a war. Brahma got sacred and he started sweating profusely and from the sweat appeared Jambavan.
He got the name Ambujata, (born from the water of sweat). As he was the first person who entered the country of Jambunanda he was called Jambavan.
